Often people ask me: what does a PhD student? What have you been working on for the last years? I used to respond that doing a PhD is to read, learn and research a lot about something tiny and specific, within a particular field and subject. Last week, a friend sent me a short, but very interesting post: The illustrated guide to a PhD, which summarises a PhD student’s journey, employing a synthetic, visual and diagrammatic language.

Following this guide, my thesis can be visually explained as follows:

There is no doubt that the world looks different now for me than at the beginning of this journey. And that I keep trying not to forget the bigger circle!
